Have just traded my 1150 and bought an early mint 1200. However my gear indicator keeps telling me lies. Go into neutral and 3rd pops up. Sometimes the screen goes blank & neutral light goes out. Also cuts out when side stand put down in neutral. This is intermittent and has only started to happen in last couple of days. All help & abuse welcome:blast

At a guess the gear sensor on the back of the box is stuffed. You might get some life from it is you strip it down and clean it out there again you might not. Other issues are probably related because it thinks it's still in gear.

Mine does that.
The answer is to pop the switch out of the back of the gearbox (right in front of the swing arm) and give it a clean......or if you're lazy like me, leave it and take comfort that it sorts itself out on a longer journey as the gearbox oil gets good and hot.

Try giving the sensor a squirt or two with a maintenance spray first :rob

Water is the cause, get your dealer to fit a new gear indicator transducer.

Thanks will have a look at switch in morning.

Mine was playing up in a similar fashion I didn't remove it Just gave what I could see sticking out of the gearbox a good soaking in SAS spray and it was cured after a short ride going up and down the gears

This is what it looks like simple enough to remove but fiddly, needs a reset via GS911 diagnostic to relearn if it still persists.

I wouldn't bother trying to fix it and just fit a new one. It will let you down eventually and probably in the arse end of nowhere on a Sunday in the pushing rain.

I've just fitted a new one as mine has been playing up for a while but after 111,000 miles I kind of forgive it:D

Ta for all the advice. Gave it a a spray this morning and appears to be behaving. Give it another run to pick up my daughter and see if it misbehaves. My local dealer will fit a new one if required.:aidan
