My Dell desktop has developed a bizarre problem this week. The problem is not restricted to one application as it has ocurred in Internet Explorer, Word and Excel.

It only ocurrs whenever the window has the scroll bar showing on the right hand side. It is as if the scroll bar has a life of its own and starts to jerk rapidly up and down rendering the screen impossible to read. Clicking and holding onto the scroll bar makes no difference.

I suspected it could be a mouse problem so I disconnected it and deleted/reinstalled the driver but that has not resolved it neither has rebooting the computer.

Anybody out there ever had this?

Had something similar a while back..it occurred after I'd played a 3d enhanced game that had changed my screen resolution........I suspect it was something to do with the GPU trying to switch modes or something being out of sync with the graphics and thinking it couldn't fit it on the screen :nenau

Might be worth reloading or updating your graphics drivers...that solved it for me

Start>Control panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager

Then select the Display adaptors and write down exactly what your graphics card is......go to the website of the manufacturer and make sure you've got the latest drivers.......if there are more up to date ones, it'll tell you how to install them (usually just a 'install' option then a reboot and it all happens automatically)......

If you do have the latest ones, do the Start>Control panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager
bit again, select the graphics adaptor and right click on it, select uninstall then reboot the PC.....on start up, the PC will find the drivers again and re-install them.

Worth a go ;)

Solved

Just in case anybody else has this problem, with the help of Dell tech support I have managed to solve it. It was a mouse problem, an optical mouse at that, I don't know what has gone wrong with the mouse - all I know is that when I unplugged it the problem stopped. I borrowed a mouse and plugged that in and hey presto still no problem, I plugged the old mouse into a laptop and the problem started there so problem isolated and offending mouse now in circular, basket style filing cabinet under my desk! :D
