A friend of mine recently bought a 1200 Adv and earlier tonight on the return journey from Newcastle a problem occurred when selecting 1st gear in that in doing so it showed it was in nuetral and the neutral position was showing 2nd gear anyone encountered a similar problem and if so how did you remedy it.
Any advice appreciated
TIA

Gearbox potentiometer either needs re calibrating or replacing, nine times out of 10 it's the latter and unfortunately its an expensive little bugger, but.....he will get the new type pot, not like the one that's in there now so shouldn't fail if BMW have done things right

have this issue for the past three years and because i can't pay for a new one it is possible to bend down and wriggle a bit on the cable of the thingy behind the gearbox with the crazy name and it will be ok for two month or so ......... not a brilliant solution but it works time after time and is super cheap so far :thumb

it occurs mostly when it's wet and sometimes ist solves itself by riding hard to get the gearbox really warm for a while :aidan

Thanks guys I'll pass it onto Roy

Do a search, you can see the device from below and it doesn't like getting wet.
