My RID has stopped showing which gear I am in. I suspect it is a problem with the switch on the rear of the gearbox as I understand these are prone to fault caused by water ingress,I think it is impossible to get at this without removal of the swinging arm. Am I correct?

You are correct Mark. :thumb2

Treat it as an opportunity to check / grease your paralever bearings and driveshaft splines :thumb

Well, yes and no. Depends which model you're talking about

The 1150 switch body is easily removeable, no tools required.

The 1100 has two switch parts mounted on each other, one for the neutral light the other for the gear indicator, held in by two very small bolts (which usually break off), and the swingarm is in the way.

The 1100 switch plugs in at the side on the subframe, very easy to get to.
But the 1150 plugs in up at the front next to the alternator, lots of threading through involved.
