Hi All,

Seasons greetings to you

I've decided to now ride with MX style boots instead of just normal ankle high shoes. But I cant get the toe section into the gear shift peg to change up through the gears. Down shifting is easy obviously...

Now I've seen after market gear lever extensions for the 1200 range of bikes, but nothing for the 1150 - probably because the bike is no longer in production. The 12xx range of bikes has a lever that bolts onto a spline shaft coming out the gear box, but the 1150 is a cast lever/bracket that connects to the box via a ball linkage.

Does anyone have a few tips on how to extend it so an MX style boot can fit? (I have added some photo's below, but they're a bit small)

I have after market wide flat foot pegs already, if this makes a difference?

Many thanks,

And the MX style boot which doesnt fit

Any suggestions?

I do have access to an engineering shop if need be

Have just adjusted the ball linkage? This is why it’s there, so you can adjust the gap between peg and lever.

If you’ve not tried it, slacken off the lock nut at each end and rotate the ball ends on the rod to make it shorter. This will raise the lever end relative to the peg. If you need it shorter still, cut down a bolt with the same thread and make yourself a shorter arm

Ideally use a Touratech adjustable gear lever if you can find one, use lower footrests like Fastway.
Additionally you need to relearn how to change up by using more of the inside edge of your boot rather than expecting to get your toe right under the lever.

I use the TT lever and lower pegs (Pivotpegz Mk2) Needed the TT lever as soon as I started experimenting with lower pegs (Migsel, SW Motech and now the Pivots) as they nearly all move the peg position forward as well as down. Because I'm pretty duck footed I tapped the inside of the lever end M10 and threaded in an allen bolt to extend it a bit so I didn't have to turn my foot in so much. The head of the allen bolt was pretty much exactly the same diameter as the peg. Also, as the footrests are much lower than stock I had to make up another connecting rod for the rose joints to allow me to get the shift in my preferred position. Bit of a faff, but the results work well for me standing or sitting. I also had a small section welded into the brake lever arm to bring it forward. 1100GS, but similar to the 1150 I guess

Another vote for the TT lever, I’ve had one fitted to every one of my 1150’s
