Have searched the site but cant find my specific problem.

Changing up or down when the bike is hot is near impossible. If I jiggle the lever with my foot I can change it which is weird.

I removed, cleaned and greased the linkage this evening but didnt get time to test ride it (more on that tomorrow).

The other thing is getting neutral: Very hard to get from 1st to neutral either hot or cold. The light on the dash doesnt change but occasionaly it will say 1 but actually be in neutral.

Any ideas?

Cheapest check first.:rob
Sounds like the clutch is not disengaging enough.
Put the bike in 1st gear with engine off. Pull the clutch fully in and see if she rolls forward easily. If its hard to move then the clutch is not operating correctly = dragging.
Check:
clutch fluid level / condition.
If the fluid is low then this can cause the lack of operation. Top up** and check drag after operating clutch lever a few times.

How many miles has she done?

** - if top up req'd and operation returns to normal, then the problem is still there BTW. why is the fluid low = plates worn or clutch slave leaking.

Ignore my advice if pushing her initially with clutch depressed and she moves freely then things can start getting expensive.

check that the hand guard is not fouling the lever,if there is no clearance it will not allow the fluid to flow correctly, causing the clutch to drag slightly

Not really accurate if you don't mind, :D

Your advise is for someone looking to correct a slipping clutch whilst riding.

ie: If the handle is fouling the guard then the clutch may slip whilst going through the gears - as the clutch is not fully engaged with the flywheel.

no sir, think again .if the lever cannot return the master cylinder port will not open.thus not allowing fluid to refill the system,if it has been this way for some time the clutch will not "self adjust" and will drag.mike

I'll bow to your better judgement then sire:rob

you are absolutely right in what you are saying,i would have thought the OP would have clutch slip, but maybe he doesnt thrash it.mike:thumb

Clutch slip is down to incorrect clutch contact/interface :jager with the flywheel.

Difficulty in selecting gears could mean the clutch is not freeing entirely = dragging, my first post is probably the easiest way to ascertain whether the thing is disengaging correctly. :D and thus confirm if further investigation is req'd.

simple bush mechanic logic as thats what I am.:D

Did you remove the gear selector operating arm from the bush in the frame, clean dirt/debris from bushing and shaft, lubricate and replace? Or did you just clean and lubricate the linkages?

It's usually a build up of fine dirt in the spindle bushing that causes problems with gear selection.

I had this problem on hot days and sorted it by adjusting to shorten the linkage. Quick and easy to try and just as easy to reverse if it doesn't work. Good luck!

Thanks all, ill be taking it for a test ride shortly and ill know better then.
Clutch wasnt slipping
Handguard isnt fouling.
Ill also check the sensor

Hopefully the cleaning will have done the trick
