Now then, a gs1200 06 plate no longer shows gear position or neutral - not huge issue just really inconvenient - I've replaced the gear position potentiometer as the usual culprit but still nothing :( according to the all knowing google if there are fault codes still in the ECU it won't 'reset' itself to recognise new bit or some such pish .

Anyway I'm all for trying this, I'm just missing a gs911 tool or whatever it is. Is there a way to reset the ECU without the computer or tool?

If there's something obvious I've missed I'd appreciate your suggestions .

The wiring into the potentiometer is reading +5v can't test signal voltage as it needs to be connected and can't get prove into connector :(

I had the same problem, had to visit the dealer for some form of reset, there are some that manage to do it without this, I believe that even disconnecting battery wont help

Modern electronics so its gs 911 or snap-on equi or dealer I am afraid. But the dealer may see other issues on the horizon with in the ECU if dealer reset.

I've replaced plenty, and no resetting was needed.

The fault is registered and will be logged as "gear indicator fault, but not present now" type of code, but it doesn't affect the new part and it should work as normal.

You might be better off getting the codes read as it may not be the gear indicator unit at all.

Just in the way of an update - it was plugged into a computermebob and he had to go into some setting and go up through the gearbox to sixth and back down to first and then when it was turned off and back on again it registered the gear position - thanks chaps I was half way there with the right part!!
