What an interesting and revealing day I've just had....
Took my bike in today to have the gear Shift Assist Pro fitted, hardware and software codes were already at the dealers. They said it should be a 1 hour job in all.
Arrived at 08:30 and by 09:00 the hardware was fitted and the software update was in the process of being installed, “only a few more minutes sir”
3 hours later after much head scratching and phone calls, the service engineers and service manager were bemused and perplexed by the bike refusing to accept the software update. Something was mentioned about the ESA not playing ball.
So I decided to take their demo GSA out for a few hours to give them time to get it sorted. Within a couple of miles of setting off, it was evident that this GS rode totally different to mine.
From new mine has not felt as happy to soak up the bumps and potholes like my Ohlin shod 1100 used to, I just put it down to the new suspension not being as good as the Ohlins, but after riding this demo bike it was clearly not the case as this one just floated over the bumps.
After a few hours I called the dealer to see how they were getting on. Things weren't looking good as the bike was still failing to accept the update. During the phone call the service manager said "have you ever had any problems with your suspension?" Funny you should say that says I....
It seems the crux of the problem installing the software for the shift assist is the fact that my ESA is buggered, it is quite possible it has never functioned correctly. During its operation the shift assist takes into account many electronic inputs, the ESA being one of them if fitted.
As the guys in Germany don’t work Saturday afternoons or Sundays, I have had to leave the GSA at the dealers
and have tha standard GS LC to play on…. Fek it feels small
