Gear shift assist

Can it be removed? I have it on my 2015 GSA and it drives me nuts, I'd love to be able to have a normal gearchange again.

I’m confused by your question Shurv; why not just ignore it’s presence ?

You can, if you use the clutch like any other bike then the GSAP does nothing at all, just adds a few grams in weight.

Not that's it any use having come a s1000xr, I'm very disappointed in the gear shift assist on the GS was clunky I did find from 3 on was better . The s1000xr was so smooth on up an down .

I've had it on a 14 plate RT, a 66 plate GS and now a 20 plate GS. Each version has been better (smoother) than the last, though I'm still not 100% convinced it serves much purpose on a bike like the GS...

I find i`m using it often on my 2021, more so from 3rd upwards where if you get the `tecnique`/timing right the shifts are barely perceptible. Similar to that of a bike with no quickshifter, really.
Downshifts however are crap, from the amount of pressure you have to apply to the lever and the jolt when the lower gear is engaged it feels crap - a bit like a bike with no quickshifter,really....
Downshifts may be better when riding in a `brisk` fashion with higher revs involved.

Not particularly, just need a sharp prod on the lever, or at least on mine - no place for subtle prod.

I didn't have it on my 1st GS, but when it came fitted as standard on my 2nd I found it useful for upshifts if a bit clunky at times. My 2020 GS is smoother still, but still not brilliant in 1st and 2nd nor on downshifts so I just use it when I know it'll be as smooth as using the clutch, plus its useful on multi car overtakes if you need a higher gear part way through.
