Going through the annual clean/lube of the lever linkage. I've been putting white lithium in the articulating two ball/sockets. Last time I lubed the metal bushing assembly where it connects to the left foot peg etc with red wheel bearing grease.

Is there a better lubricant to use on these two areas? Thanks

Did it work last time?

If so, what are you expecting from the new lubricant? How much faster and slicker would you like it to be :nenau

I think it is a fair question to ask. Some greases like wheel bearing grease can wash out. Some of the lubricants used by BMW on the motorcycle are designed not to wash away.

Lately I have started to use a Castrol Optimol paste TA, which appears to be resistant to water. Certainly hard to get off your fingers without lots of washing up liquid. I've used it on the main stand pivot and gear lever pivot bushes. It is the same stuff I use to lubricate the spline shaft.

Off topic.
I have also abandoned using copper slip anti seize grease on my bolts which seams the trend, preferring to use Optimol White T assembly paste instead.

I've stripped and replaced the bushings in mine because they looked like they were glued in by the previous owner and were trashed anyway. Reading up on a few threads Steptoe mentions using synthetic grease.

I've used a thick grease and mixed in some graphite powder. Most successful thing I've tried to date.
