well thanks to vigo and slowdown for the pointers on me brake pads , so got the bits and installed em:clap so much for that, not a big job but worth some research, any how poped the bike into gear on the centerstand to check alls well ,and there is this tractor sound vibrating the bike on the stand , what i can describe as clunking , thought it was the fd but def the gearbox, please tell me they all do this!! where can i check the gearbox oil level? also the rear wheel is not running 100 per cent true ,is this a sign of impending doom?? sorry for the desperate questioning but im off at the weekend and it sounds like its all going off now!

shouldve checked me bike last week!

Lots of us have done this at some point and filled our underpants in fear of The Noise

In essence they all do that sir. Basicly a combination of thumping big engine at low revs, lots of backlash in the gears, pulsing power transmission through UJ joints and cyclic acceleration/deceleration of the back wheel all combine to make the transmission sound like two robots mating on a tin roof.

As long as your back wheel hasn't got a huge amount of play it it, it's probably OK. If you have wire wheels they may have got a bit out of true
