Riding home today and changed up to overdrive on my 2001 1150GS but it would not change. i then realised that it would not change down either as the gear lever was not selecting. Although it appeared to move and spring back there was no gear selection at all. So, nothing for it but to ride home in 5th!

Now it is home i have had managed to get it to change gear. I can even get a neutral light on, but it is still in gear and will therefore spin the wheel in neutral with the clutch out. It will then change up or down but if i release the clutch the rear wheel locks and the bike stalls.

Now i am pretty sure the gearbox is shot... any thoughts?

If it is shot, does anyone have a spare box for sale? Was just about to sell the bike as i was looking at a newer lower mileage GSA instead.

Have you tried stripping, cleaning and lubricating the gear pedal linkages?

Yes, spoke to Motorworks and then immediately disregarded that.

Saw the 2 on ebay, liked the price of the black one but was concerned that they did not even realise it was an 1150 6 speed box, not a 5..... decisions decisions.

yes, had that issue before... bike is 10 years old - day in day out riding with about 170,000 miles. First major failure for anything on it!

The second one doesn't look like a GS 'box to me. :nenau

It's a 1200 gearbox.....

The other used box still has the driveshaft and clutch slave cylinder attached. :D

The brand new box is a great price.
