Mate's having problems with his 1150.

Gearbox gets very sticky changing down 4-3-2-1. Sometimes he had to stop to get it from 3 to 1. Only happens when gearbox is being used hard in traffic/city conditions.
I've ridden it and it performed perfectly but didn't have chance to try it in traffic.

Anyone have any ideas where to start looking?

TIA

Strip down and give the gear lever pivot a good clean up in the first instance. Takes 10-15mins and can resolve all manner of selection issues.

The bit behind the foot peg bracket itself, Allen key from exhaust side just make sure it isn't still hot :thumb2

Difficulty changing down gears is very likely to be a sticky gearlever pivot bush

If you guys remove the little wire clip off one end of the little gearlever link arm and pop the arm off the ball If the gearlever does not fall reasonably freely, its needs to be removed and the bushes popped out and the gearlever's corrosion behind the bushes cleaned out

Basically Its is sticking at a point before it has reset the gear selector "dogs" so theres a lot of phaffing to try and get the next hear

Thanks. As I said in OP this is only happening when hot so will this be due to the pivot heating up and expanding?

I'd say with 95% certainty that your problem is the gear lever, not the linkage.
It's the bush that's inserted into the gearlever.
It's no good just undoing the bolt that hold the gearlever to the footrest hanger, you have to push the bush that's inserted (and now semi seized) into the lever.
Clean it with wet and dry or even file it, replace the bush into the lever with plenty of grease then revolt it back in place - do a search and you'll see just how common this problem is

Thanks.
I'll give that a go tomorrow.
