HI all, i'm sure this has been dealt with many times so I am sorry for any repetition.

The gears on my 97 (P) 1100 GS are very stiff to change down, up is not so bad but still not great. The bike goes OK and pulls well, there is no excessive noise from the gearbox. The situation seems worse when the box is cold and at lower speeds.

The only possible cause that I can see is there is some wear in the selector lever bushes. The clutch is light and has not changed in weight at all.

This has been going on for about 1000 miles and is not apparently any worse, changed the oil again and there is no appreciable swarf or filings in the oil.

Any Ideas anyone.

Check that the gear lever and its linkages are free to move. They can corrode / get full of crud and partially seize producing these symptoms.

+1! Linkage 1st resort, gearbox last resort:thumb
