Gearbox oil issue

Whilst giving the bike the once over i noticed that there was a drip of oil and it looks to be coming from the fill screw for the gearbox, so i put the bike over on its side stand and checked and it was able to be given a quarter turn without much effort. So out of curiousity i removed the fill screw and there appears to be metal fillings on the magnet. Bike has BMW warrenty so should i put some more oil in since its been leaking?

Whats the craic with it should i take it to BMW saying that i have seen fillings in there??

Bike is a 2011 and has done just shy of 14K miles.

Quite unusual for a gearbox fill screw to loosen by itself - recent service perhaps?
And type and quantity of "fillings" (filings) - was it just a light covering, or were they sticking out in a cone shape?
From memory the fill screw is also the "level" ie put in the prescribed amount or until the oil just lips back out.
More info please, and a foto of the filings would be good.

It was a cone shape, i stupidly didnt take a pic before cleaning it. I have topped it up with gearbox oil like you say until it comes out.

Your bike has metal filings on the gearbox magnet, it's under warranty and you're asking if you should have BMW take a look, at the risk of sounding like a twat...what do you think?!!!

Filings = excess wear either due badly mismatched revs on gear shifts or failing components or both.
As the bike is under warranty why are you DIY the oil changes?

My money is on it all being fine. Drain and change the oil. Buy a new crush washer and clean the magnet before refilling and torquing the filler cap. 14k isn't many miles, and as long as the gear change seems fine just keep riding and occasionally checking the magnet for debris.
Of course you could always go the dealer route if it makes you feel better, but I doubt they'd do much more than I've just suggested.
I don't mean to sound blasé about it but my bike ('11 GSA) had metal on the magnet at a similar mileage and the gearbox seems to be getting slicker and improving with age.

As im asking for what other have found, as the last post from SteveM suggests it fairly normal with low mileage so thats why i asked. Getting it to the dealers isnt an easy task for me and so i thought i would see what everyone else thinks.

Oh meant to say, gear changes are nice no issues.

Must admit as you say Steve, my bike also seems to be getting slicker changes as the miles creep up.

It was seeping from the fill screw for the gearbox Bendy, so i tightened it a quarter turn and its now fine.
