Gearbox oil

Sorry to start another oil thread but what gear oil do BMW recommend for an 07 1200 gearbox? Is it the same as the final drive ie Castrol SAF-XO 75w-90 Synthetic? If so, whats so special about this oil? Why can I not use any GL5 synthetic hypoid oil.
I have a R1100RS with 70K on the clock and have changed the gearbox and final drive with GL5 Hypoid 80 by Comma every 6000 miles. So far no problems (touch wood, probally kiss of death) even with the doggy 1995 gearbox.

The BMW/Castrol pocket guide I picked up at my local dealers recommends Castrol EPX80W90 gear oil for gearboxes of R1200 models.

I've used Redline shockproof gear oil in the GS for 12000 miles, no problems.

I was using Comma fully synth EP75W90 but since changing to Castrol EPX80W90 the bike seems to shift more smoothly, probably due to the cushioning effect of the thicker oil.
