Can anybody tell me if the BMW geabox should run quiet or or should it have a permanent whine in any gear that sounds like the old whine you used to get from the differentails on old cars when worn. It has been like this since I took my earplugs out, Not bothered by the gear change. I think this has been like this for 4000 miles and does not sound healthy, This noise does not come from the diif unit at the rear

One more question does the handling of the bike go of on tourance tyres after 6000 miles even though there is plenty of tread

How many miles has the bike done it total ?
What colour is the gearbox oil ?

What sort of riding do you do - if lots of motorways/ main roads the tourances will have a flat spot, which is very visible.

The bike has done 37000 miles and always has good oil put in, The oil comming out is clean. The riding is various Motorway as well as A and B roads and as an IAM Observer I hope quite smooth with the minimal amount of abuse. So does the type of road you are on have an affect on the Gearbox as this has to be the noisiest geabox I have owned

I've had two, owned both from new and still have the current one. They both whine like an ERF, especially in 3rd gear. The first one was very loud. It's part of the character :thumb
