I have a problem with my twin cam GS1200 gearbox. Changing up no problem changing down 6 to 5 no problem, but there is an intermittent problem changing down from 5th or lower where the gear lever moves but there is no change down. Its like you are in first and trying to change down, movement but no physical contact with anything. Chug along in the wrong gear and after a minute or so it will change down, then perhaps play up again, perhaps not. I think the selector is sticking and i will obviously aim to get it done under warrantly but it would be nice to go into the dealer armed with stories from others.

Sorry mate but haven't heard of this before.
But if it is a common problem you can be sure the replies will come in thick and fast :type

I'm sure they'll sort it for you at the dealers. :thumb2:thumb2
Positive mental attitude :roll

From new my 2011 GSA has had a problem (logged by dealer at its 600 mile service ). All up and down changes are fine except third to fourth where if it not a very slow and deliberate change it will ride between gears and end up in a false neutral.
Don't get me wrong after 9 years of a 1150 box it is very good in most respects.
I'm going to reiterate the fault at its 6000 mile service and push for a new box when it is about 22 months old.

I had exactly the same problem on mine, it was a fractured ball joint in the change mechanism, fixed by Vines South London under warranty. Mine was not intermittent though, other than that exactly as you describe, until it was fixed I tapped the gear lever gently up to reset then change down. hope you get it fixed soon:beerjug:

Frank, sounds possible with mine i will have a good look at it this weeken, many thanks.:thumb2

Frank, i think you have cracked it. Checked linkage balljoints, no damage, but then i noticied the inner ball joint which screws into the link on the gearbox was loose as hell. This was pushing the linkage against a black plastic casing which was stopping the lever move back to its central postion. All tighened up and much better movement by lever. Will take out on the weekend and see if it is ok.

frank, it was indeed the ball joint that because loose, was rubbing against a plastic casing, all fixed now, many thanks :clap
