Gearbox removal / re-fitting

Cheers folk.

Time before last I was in there I did the shaft and all was AOK, no missing alloy.

Last job done on it, by ANOther who I think I've just lost face in then, was a new clutch and gaiter as I was too busy planning the South America jaunt and therefore didn't do it myself...

No how many times have I been dissappointed by a job done elsewhere :(

I wonder if the box got dropped on floor...very poor if stuck together like that with no comment to me though - I think your comments are correct on the damage not being new (loss of flange sleeve)

All that said, I'd trust those on here to do the job :D in case that could be misunderstood :blast

I've got a s/h box coming which I'll stick on, and I hope to strip this box myself and see what the damage is. Likely interested in a replacement end plate Garry.:thumb2 - and depending how it goes, maybe the whole job :eek:

fritz, you can re-use them 'til the cows come home because they're not stretch bolts. That's a myth put forward by BMW to sell more bolts.

um.... well, not wanting to start a row, just my experience;
on an R80/7 i DIDNT use new ones after replacing a clutch.

20 minutes on the road after doing the job - the buggers came out / sat in the gaiter (phew!).
used new bolts - no further problems.

BUT.....thinking back on it - lord knows how often the previous owner REused them before me!:rolleyes:

just my experience.:)
