Can I remove the gearbox, without moving the engine forward? If so, how to do it?
Also can the exhaust headers stay attached?

Nothing big has been done in approx 20 years. Guessing some of these might be seized.

Take the swing arm out, and then the gearbox will come out without disturbing the engine. That's how I do it.

That's good to know. Thanks.

I had a go with the long extension (gently. Well, it's either the standard ratchet or a three foot bar) the rear engine mount bolt is nice and free. Didn't try the front one, as I will have to demount the sidecar as its front lower mount fixes directly to the engine mount rod. Knowing I can get the box out backwards means the sidecar chassis can stay put, preserving the set up of the chair. Pulling the swingarm is probably a good idea anyway. Bearing check and lube wouldn't hurt it, would it.
