Question re angle of the gearbox shift lever

I've put a second hand gearbox in my ST whilst waiting for its gearbox to be built.

the spare gearbox was described as a R80 gearbox

On fitting I see that the gearbox shift levers natural position is far more vertical that what I've had on my several gs's before. On my ST and GS's the shift lever is normally close to horizontal.

I can get a bit of threaded bar to make a longer selector rod for now - I was just interested to know why it might be different. It seems to work fine, but the angle the push rod moves through isn't ideal

ah that explains it - you've got my box
80g/s /st,and 80/100GS have a different lever ( going into the box)

ah that a simple explanation - you've got my gearbox in for rebuild at the moment - unfortunately I sent the lever in with it , but I can make do with what I've got for now
 
You can get longer threaded linkages….. think it was Bayer.de that I Saw them on……
