Recently, a problem has developed on my '04 1150GS (< 6,000 miles) where it's becoming increasingly difficult to select 1st gear from neutral. Several 'stabs' at the lever can be required and sometimes I have to rock the bike back & forward before I can select 1st.

This is particularly evident when starting the bike up from cold, but can also occur after sitting with the bike in neutral with the engine running (eg whilst at traffic lights).

Tried a search on the site but didn't find anything. Wondered whether anyone has any ideas?

They all do that sir......well, to a degree anyway.

Sounds like yours is worse than most though......it's a well known quirk that from cold, you have to let the clutch out a little as you chabge from N to 1st, but I've never had to rock her to get into gear.

Sounds like a case of getting the bike into the dealer for a check :(

I also find that letting the clutch out a little while selecting gear solves the problem.

Thanks for your advice.

The "Clutch-in and immediately select gear" approach seems to work fine for me.

Cheers.
