Gearbox....

I have for the past few days had a rattleing noise, I say rattleing it sometimes sounds like a bucket of bolts, from my gearbox, don't have any problems changing up or down. It is more noticable at low speeds. Have had a search thru the threads. Has anyone had this problem. Into SPC for a check tomorrow.

Mine rattles with the clutch in but not too loud, I can hear it with earplugs in. I presume its the bearing in the clutch.

it happens whilst clutch engaged, when I come to a stop and put it into neutral the noise remains, if, whilst still in neutral pull the clutch in then release it it clears it.

Don't know wether I should have done this, but put it on its centre stand then started engine engaged 1st gear and let the clutch out, and it sounded bloody awful, made me cringe.

Its only these past few days that it has started making the noise, its just coming upto 23000 miles.

Yep sounds the same as mine except mine has been doing it for Months (gulp)......let me know what the dealer says

without hearing it, but going by the description, it sound like the output shaft bearing, a lot of bikes have it , its generaly nothing to worry about, just normal wear in the box -- the noise you heard when running it in gear on the centre stand is because there's no load on the drive train, again normal.

but remember i haven't heard it, just going by past experiance.

Sounds like your throttle bodies are getting out of synch.

You must remember that you have two rather large single cylinder bikes on either side of the bike, they create a lot of imbalance when idling incorrectly.

This in turn, makes the clutch pushrod wobble around inside the input shaft of the gearbox. If you pull the clutch in and hold it in the noise should stop.

Re-balancing the throttle bodies will make the idle extremely smooth and stop the pushrod shaft rattling around. The rattling noise is also helped along by having the top empty half of the gearbox acting as an echo chamber.

Sounds like the same noise as mine and you rang the alarm bells on mine

No you said "when does the warranty expire? Might be worth a visit to SPC" but no you didn't mention "working on it" or "changing it"

just in for a cuppa, working on a K75 at the moment, a mega milage example, so lots of grief. not a happy bunny, its stopping work on the wonderous weather protection shite bag project.

Bit of a ....

relief, had my bike checked at SPC today, and as it happens nothing to do with gearbox or transmission, its down to the timing chain hydraulic tensioners causing the problem. These are to be replaced under warranty on my next service which is in a fortnights time.

Felt a lot happier on my ride home till I hit a patch of diesel on a roundabout, but luck and god kept me upright....with a bit of a struggle. Pucker factor was very high.
