Just written to Steppers.
Got a problem with my 1150 G/box. Difficulty getting into 5th occasionally, (getting worse) Gearbox has got noisy over past couple of hundred miles
Big trip planned for mid-May so it will have to be looked at pronto.
Asked Steppers if he will refurbish the box if I remove it and drop it up to him. Have looked through the threads looking for pictures of the gearbox being removed but can't seem to find any...
Do any of you tossers know if there are any such photo's, and where to find them.
Any pitfalls/shortcuts with taking the gearbox out
Any info will be gratefully received....

Hiya Smudge - have located the phone number for Jim Cray Engineering - Give me a ring and I'll pass it to you. He's a sound guy and will discuss the problem that you have with your box. When I was there last week he was sorting out a gs 1200 that had a similar problem - the guy knows Bms!- kelv.[/FONT]

Changed the oil just in case?

On the 1150 it can get to jump out of 6th into 5th even if the oil's not much over 6000 miles old.

TRY (IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY) STRIPPING AND CLEANING THE GEAR LINKAGE (GEAR LEVER ASSEMBLY) BEFORE YOU EVEN THINK OF SPENDING MONEY!!!. Dirt and corrosion can seize the whole linkage and make it difficult / impossible to change gear.

Make a point of checking the actual operating lever, ths gets full of water
and seizes up. Undo the linkage and push the lever up and down and it should be loose and free. any resitance ans it need's to be taken apart and cleaned. The bolt holding the lever to the foot rest is VERY TIGHT held in with locktight so heat it up before attempting to remove it. I have had th4e same problems and thought a bout a gearbox strip but started to go through
the system and this was thre trouble couldent belive it but all was well after a clean and lube session. Good luck. If you camn fit a grease nipple on the pivot holder thats what I did.

Gearbox woes

Thanks for the information Kelv and welcome.
Gonna try the suggestions given by Big Lad, John and Dave before I start stripping anything down, then I will probably give yer man a ring if needs be.
I am 12 hour days over weekend so it will be Monday now before I can do owt.
I will keep in touch in case I need a hand or two.
