i'll be damned, i'll have to check that when i get home tonight. always thought the only serial number on the motor was next to the oil filler hole. you don't suppose thats a european bike only thing, eh?

the glass beads are fine. If in doubt have a go at the inside of the alternator cover or on a spare part. I have done 3 or 4 BMs this way and apart from the mess and the risk of beads getting into the wrong spots am happy to keep doing it. Best way to clean hubs that I know.
Have also done wet soda blasting thru a cheap sand blast gun using bicarbonate soda available from a pool shop-still messy but wet and messy
