Gel In Original Seat vs New Seat?

I was chatting to a guy who re-models seats and his opinion was that all gell does is cut down on any vibration getting through and was a waste of time/ money. Most people who spend the cash will defend their gell seats, but then I suppose they feel they have too.

Buying a Sargent is the best thing I've done to make my bike more comfortable, but then I feel I have to say that.....:aidan

I don't find the Airhawk too much hassel, tbh. I have worked out a way of leaving the straps on the seat when the pad isn't on it. I haven't found that it moves about when getting on or off. Style wise, well it's functional, and when your sitting on it you can't see it! :D

Invariabley when I have stopped for a brake the bike is in sight; but it only takes a moment to remove the seat and either carry it with you (makes that furniture you often find outside street cafe's in Europe a lot mor comfy :D ) or stow it.

On the subject of price, there are two versions. The superior quality neoprene one is the more expensive ...

There's some more discussion here:

The Airhawk is, of course, transferrable from one bike to another ... unlike a seat ...

Gel

Well paul i live in essex and the guy that did mine specializes in car upholstery and hoods,he removed the cover cut out an insert and put the gel pad in and recovered it,iv read whats been said here and i disagree about defending it because id spent money its a great mod the seat looks untouched,no mouse under the carpet look,it still has its profile and it is really comfortable.I to saw the baglux seats at the show and they looked quality with good fabric almost id say a leather look so either of these options would be a good bet.I have no experience of airhawk so cant help there although personally i wouldnt want the hassle of having to keep putting it on and taking it off my seat..as for corbin sargent etc way to much money my mate just bought a corbin for his zrx kawasaki looks nice quite comfy but over £300 quid jeez the Emperors new clothes spring to mind..

Hi cherokee, Can you tell me how much you paid for your seat change as I was typically quoted £120/£130 + I send my seat to them at my cost.

Also, how is it more comfy? It must be softer right? What about long journeys you must get a slightly sore bum I mean it's not possible to ride without getting SOME discomfort right? I like the idea of improving my seat as I would still keep the original look of the seat and considering it's red/black it looks good!

Seat

I left my seat with him for a couple of days then picked it up,cost was £60 quid he explained how he cut out the section and fitted the gel pad in.Iv done a few 300+ mile trips now and its great,it feels like i could just keep going it really is that comfy to me.Im off for two weeks in spain next june and in sure now its gonna be just what i was after. The good bit for me is it retains the look with the original seat. What you should do is find a good trimmers/upholsterers locally go chat with them...

Gel pads, are they all the same or are there different thicknesses? I've contacted someone local but I would have to supply the gel pad but from where?

Ring him

This is the guy who did mine if you ring him he may be able to give you the lowdown on the gel.. 01702 528492 hope this helps:Motomartin

Chap I bought my seat from - XX High sport. had a layer of 'memory foam' put in and must say its fantastic... even more so as he had it recovered so no nasty 'Touratech' logo to be seen.

Think its interesting that both sargent and corbin will not use gel in their seats and have a lot to say about why.

I don't hear many complaints from those peeps who have bought either one or the other.
