Generator upgrade?

With all the eletrickery used by the lights and heated bits on my 1999 GS which has the small Bty and a suppose the lighter generator, how easy is it to swap to a ABS/Heated grips std generator? Its easier to ask here than remove the tank etc

Genny swap

It's very easy to swap for a more powerful genny/batt...........
take your bike to your local bmw dealer and give him lots of your hard earned cash for what? I'd invest in a good battery charger mate.

if its any help just changing the regulator will help as this is the thing that controlls the output , hardest part is finding out ..
the alternator will almost be the same size and shape so the reg is the point to look..

Standard one is 600w so more than adequate for heated grips, 45w, Dipped and main headlights 110w and Aux lights 110w.

ASBS one is 700w for the extra used by the ABS.
