george best fiver

I think that the powers that be decided that George Best was a name nown throughout the world (with the exeption of the U.S) and would give their airport the same anti heroe success as John Lennon has given to Liverpool.

And I'm sorry Greg but Mrs Alexander Airport just does'nt do it for me :)

I was a bit flippant was'nt I.

I just don't understand some of the out and out hatred for a very talented man who lost his way in life due to an addiction. I think the energy some people have put into their disgust of GB could be put to better use somewhere else
Agree with that :thumb He wasnt perfect, but then who is,

Have to say i agree with Streaky on this one but also agree with Wizard.

Frank Pantridge was quite possibly the kindest, most pleasant and knowledgeable person i have ever had the pleasure of knowing.

He was a regular customer of the restaraunt i worked in for six years.

Alot of his work is still to this day unsurpassed and the lives he saved uncounted.

I believe some form of permanent memorial has recently been or is to be built in Lisburn to acknowledge this.

The man was a legend and the perfect gentleman.

Unfortunately, history is littered with people who haven't got just recognition for deeds or otherwise. Hugh Dowding didn't get the acclaim he deserved for years after his death, either did Bomber Harris, to name ones I'm interested in. As I said earlier, people here have gone OTT about Best and there's many other greats who haven't been honoured as much as has been heaped on Best.
