Just wondering how/where you guys might have mounted the remote controller for a Gerbing heated jacket liner.

Under the seat. Safe from prying eyes and scrotes.

Where the feck do you think you’ll mount it?

Want more help? Google: gerbing remote mounting and then tap ‘images’. That is a three word search. Your enquiry was 18, plus three for the title = 21 words. Seven times the effort, plus the additional stress induced whilst you’ve pondered on this most taxing of questions.

Have a great weekend.

I don't have one, and never will, but I imagine that a good location would be on the shelf in the fridge, next to the anti bike theft pound of butter.

Thank you dear Wapping for your supercilious and entirely unhelpful response. Perhaps you could explain how you adjust the temperature 'on the fly' (which is surely the point of it) if you're sitting on top of the controller?

See, that's how my choice wins.
I'd only have to open the fridge door to twiddle with my knob.

I use a warm 'n safe remote, but I presume it's basically the same.

I have a QuadLock mount on my bars and stuck a Quad Lock adhesive mount on the back of the remote. Perfectly suited for instant adjustments. Looks like I will be using it in the morning as well!

I have pixies to do it. Little tiny pixies, bred for the one purpose. I shout, “Up!” and they turn it up. “Down!” and they turn it down. “Flying around!” and they do impressions of Robert Morley and Terry Thomas. I have yet to find one able to do a really good Sarah Miles.

PS Of course it’s not really under the seat. It’s glued inside the top box lid.

But just in case you think it might be true. I Velcro’d mine to the top of the clutch reservoir. You see, I looked at my bike, where I usually sat and pondered as to where I thought I could reach to operate something as tricky as a remote control easily, all without falling off too often. Well, I can tell you, it had me in quite a quandary for at least 5 seconds until, like a bolt from above, it hit me. There it was, staring me in the face! How could I have missed it? No second hand Tom Tom bits. No need to buy an 1150. No quad locks. No help from anyone. Two simple strips of Velcro. Job’s a carrot, as they say.

Now, where do you think I put a second one? Yup, that’s right, you’ve got it. It’s Velcro’d on top of the first. How clever is that? Genius, eh?

Have a great weekend, again.

But hey, even after that you might be a bit down in the dumps, somewhat bruised and disappointed that you’d not been flooded with more (or less) polite answers to your question, it being second only to the mystery of what lies inside the atom. If so, here’s something to really cheer you up and hopefully help you see that, within the Adventure motorbiking world there is a whole pantheon of like minds:

did you spit out the Risperidone again?

did you spit out the Risperidone again?

No help at all to the OP. Disgraceful.

Just wondering how/where you guys might have mounted the remote controller for a Gerbing heated jacket liner.

I'm using the WonderWheel on the left handlebar. Re-programmed the CANswitch to handle the jacket, and set it up to react to pushing the wheel rear button and turning it at the same time. Initial turn on: Click the wheel and turn it up one notch: This will bring the jacket up to 100% for 45 seconds and then bring it back to 60%. From there on, each notch brings the heat up/down by +/- 20%. The 20% steps may a bit too large, so I'm considering 10% steps.

You now only need to tell your audience how you (or someone else) re-programmed the CANswitch.... keep it simple, preferably with drawings.

But before then, if you had a Gerbing Remote Controller, where would you put it? It’s what the OP wants to know. Please don’t say “Under the seat” as he seems to have seen through that, secure though it might be.

Pretty funny this ..... :D:D

Nice to stray into this section occasionally.

It’s not at all funny. :nono

It’s not at all amusing that someone is so lacking in imagination or helpfulness that they cannot down tools and at once give a fulsome description as to where, how and why they mounted a remote Gerbing branded heat controller on their water cooled 1200 / 1250 GS motorcycle (no other makes or models, mind) and then go out in the dark and cold to take pictures, so that everything is completely clear. It’s disgraceful, that’s what it is and something must be done about it. This is a likeminded site with a likeminded section for likeminded people..... and don’t you forget it!

OP, I have been mulling over your question overnight.

In the dark hours I recalled that I once had a Widder controller which I mounted onto my 1200 GS and GSA motorbikes. Bikes which, by happy coincidence, are pretty much the same as your bike. I know a Widder (no longer available, sadly) is not the same thing exactly as a Gerbing wireless controller but it may help. The Widder controller was not wireless, so it made it quite a bit harder as I had to find a way to run power into it from the power socket on the beak and then from the controller into my jacket. Again, Velcro came to my aid. I Velcro’d the controller to the near side (that’s left, when you are sat on the bike) of the fuel tank. There I could easily reach it and control my heated clothing at will, quite safely, left handed. Unfortunately I don’t think I took any pictures at the time but I hope I have given you enough to go on.

Though not quite what you are looking for, I hope it gives you the encouragement and confidence to try something similar yourself with your Gerbing remote controller. HTH, as they say. Keep us posted as to how you get on, please.

Until then, here’s a picture I have taken of my RapidFire (Warm’n’safe) remote controller, showing the Velcro stuck to its underside. I am pretty sure (confident even) that you could do the same with a Gerbing controller.

Yeah, yeah, but what type of Velcro? :hide

Then there's the conundrum of does the bike or the controller get the rough half the Velcro or the smooth half?

People need to know, Wapping, you must be exact in your reply!

Oddly enough, I did at the time ponder (for a while at least) your second question. I opted to have the hairy (less rough) side on my bike when I mounted a controller to my 1600. But the rough half on my bikes when I mounted the Widder to my 1200’s. Why I switched, I really cannot say. Maybe I thought the rougher side went better with the rufty-tufty image of the 1200’s?

To be honest, I don’t think it makes any difference, though I’d be interested (as I am sure you will be, too) in hearing the experience of others or even their thoughts, if they haven’t themselves done it. That way experience is shared and knowledge gained. This is a great site. How anyone can object to paying the £12 subscribers’ fee is a mystery. Yes, I’m talking to you, knutk, with your fancy Canwhatsit controlled jacket way of doing things.

As regards your first question. For a real hardcore, self-reliant, go anywhere, seat of the pants, plan nothing Adventure (with a capital A) bike rider, I’d probably recommend the tough Velcro. For the more gentle bimbler or even the super fast but ever so smooth rider (probably on a WC, that’s been to Hilltop) I’d go for the less weightier material. Grammes saved here will all help.

There's something fishy going on here.

I see you edited the £22 before I could quote it. :D

I’d hate to think that - had I not corrected my foolish error - I might’ve been the unwitting cause of the thread being swamped by bods, worried that they had only paid twelve pounds. That would have taken it well off topic and not helped the OP at all.
