What struck me was that the jacket, at least, didn't seem to have much weight to it.

It doesn't have much weight due to the fact that it is the very latest laminate goretex. One of the reasons I bought it,as it will be v warm in winter but not over bearing in summer, with the lining removed.

I'e tried most brands over the years slowly spending more money each year, as most gear is luckly to last 52 weeks of commuting...

...Bought Rukka Atech suit online which was well discounted.

...So far so good - What I do like is even after 1hr or so in a down pour the jacket is always dry, for going home.

Cant same that for any other jacket I've owned.

i am not brand stuck, i mean i wear rukka and have just order revitt allroader kit for greenlaning wid ktm525 {hes top fella and knows all the best places}
i need a suit that allows for motox boots the rukka is a bit tight, having said that there r the steel and unit pants not adventure pants
so buy gear that fit the ride and you cant go wrong .i dont like hg gear even though my best mate works at manc.there warrnty sucks .i ripped my rukka pants on a offroad trip and sent them back, there sent out a pair to use while mine get fixed.its afterservice like that i like :rob not cost

+1 for the Safety Suit - with the interchangeable outers (you have to see this in the flesh) it's really warm in winter and really cool in summer. Much more so than a Rukka....

All that kit looks bloody good and bloody expensive. Is it?

The jacket and trousers is £900 RRP I think. It's a really clever design that wins in places and looses in others...

You're welcome to have a look at my 2 year old suit seeing as you're just down the road... You about at the weekend?

Kind offer, but you do appear to be the living spawn on Satan - that way spending lies, blooming fruitfully from the seed of doubt sewn by the coveting of the suit of another. Got to get at least another 2 years from the Rukka before any further cash is expended. But then....

Big twin, Halvarrsons are just about to release another lighter version of their safety suit, the class 1. The original suit "class 2" is about at heavy as a decent leather jacket, the class 1 is only a little heavier than a fabric jacket

Interesting :)

As per previous postings HG warranty is only 2 yrs after that you are on your own claiming against the Goretex 5 yr warranty.
YOU must return it to them for testing , if it leaks they will disect the jacket and if the membrane is at fault they will pay a percentage of the value based on age of garment.
If the membrane is okay and the fault is due to HG workmanship or other bits of the jacket wearing out you get nowt but end up with the jacket in bits.
I've had a couple of HG goretex jackets including the master IV and neither lasted more than 3 years without leaking with farly light use

Rukka armadillo

Dig deep and the Rukka gear wont dissapoint you.
I've had the Armadillo suit now over a year and its top notch. keeps you dry -warm in winter cool in summer.
It aint cheap but worth it.
A few of our group have had hg and the returns are ledendry:blast
De Bikerland (german company) exellent service and saves a lot compared to uk prices
good luck

BMW Atlantis? Detachable membranes?

Anyone tried BMW Atlantis?

Generally, views on detachable membranes?

Thanks.

Personally I've only had my Gortex membrane (HG Tuarag Rallye 2 suit) in mine for the first few days after I bought it...

Can't see the point of it...

If you are cold... much better of putting the windproof layer on outside of all that thickness = insulation...

If it rains... much better putting the waterproof layer outside all that absorbent cloth and leather....

One thing holding me back from buying a Twat suit is the fact that I can't get one without the Gortex insert here in The Netherlands... (it would save a couple hundred pounds on the cost... and I won't use it...)

For my recent trip to Morocco and Back.. whenever I got cold, I put my Goretex hiking gear on top of my riding suit...it worked very well, and the only thing I felt was missing, was perhaps some reflective bits to enhance my visiblity at night...

I may buy the BMW Goretex jacket and trousers to make my hiking gear last longer...
