So the time for our Holiday arrived at long last. Jim and Fiona arrived at ours on Sunday 21of june via a little Hobbit hole in Yorkshire.
We had decided to have a look at germanys Frankonian Switzerland near Bamberg as i been in the region a few times but never that far and was told it was a stunning region of germany
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franconian_Switzerland
We popped over to Chad for a little BBQ and a few drinks

Jim and I where booked on the train early morning so decided to not drink too much as we had a 400 mile journey and the forcast was #@&%$£
The girls where using Ryan air to fly to Nurnberg where we picked them up on wednesday

Panzer ready to roll

Well, the forcast was right**We had rain all the way to my former school mates Uli's place near Koblenz

I had the heated grips on al the way as the temp hovered around 10-12'C,Summer holidays???

Next day we carried on for another 200+ miles with showers and still cold but the view of the Camp site when we arrived, cheered us up

Jim and i rested the next day,Jim had covered 2000kmin 4 days and the pub had good cold beer, schnapps and brilliant food**

Wild boar gulasch

The game population certainly took a hit in our time there. The Chef was a hunter and they shot and used their own game in the restaurant

The camp site was named after this boy(the hairy one**),well not really, they just found lots of cave bear skeletons in nearby caves

As the region is known for his climbs we could watch these guys from our camp

Found a cave troll nearby***

Wednesday the girls arrived

My chairleg was sabotaged***

Side road going past the campsite

Next morning i was up early so i decided to go for a little climb to take some pics

Next day we went for a 100mile ride with sight seeing, stunning forest roads and cake**

Wie stopped over at a grand church on a little hill which also had a brewery attached**
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourteen_Holy_Helpers

The area was also a central point during the german witch hunts, some cheerfull stone carvings outside the church

If we didnt eat in the restaurant we did this

We also had a walk to the next village, about 2km

Lunch?

Village of Pottenstein incl castle

spotted these on our way back

and a fire again**

Went to the Devilscave
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil's ... enstein%29

Cave bear skeleton

remains of about 80 cavebears

Back on the campsite,Mr Gates said on jims phone that we would have a bit of rain. So we went back to the tents to make sure everything was ok**
And what a storm we had.I seen a few but this was special. The world turned black and than this white cloud rolled in***

and mahem broke out***

Neighbours decided it was no point trying to save their tents,so decided to watch with refreshments**

We went to Bamberg to see my parents and have a look at town

The Bear pose (nudge nudge wuink wink Lowflier)

Bamberg Cathedral

and Bamberg town

View from the Beer garden

did a little boat trip

a few low briges

Noticed this in town

Lots of good roads, castles,Churches, stunning scenery, good and cheap food and drink

Oh and did I mention cake 😀

a few more castles

Of course we had to have some curry Wurst

a little Schnitzel mit Pommes

Unfortunately we had to leave way to soon

Since we where so close we decided to pop into the Czech Republic

Only 120 miles into the other direction and definitely not worth it
They didn't even have stickers

IT was a lot warmer on the way home

That's it guys. We had a brilliant time in a area new to me as well and I only can recommend it. The campsite was cheap (€135 for 9 nights for 2 people) and extremely clean. Everyday fresh rolls and cake.

Oh and if you go to the campsite, try this

Wurzelsepp schnapps-for real man

Needless to say we had some. When I asked the waitress what was in it she said "I'm not telling and you not allowed to sipp or smell it"
As soon as we touched the glass, the pub went quiet and everyone looked at us.
Let's say it's a "Unique "experience

I can not recommend the area or the campsite more

This has given me an idea for a trip - spend a few days in the Harz region and then go south into Franconia. Should be plenty there to occupy 10 days.

Great ride report cheers ,
But in your price's list there was a most important thing missing ......:beer:price

Fantastic, I was looking for something to do this weekend as I have a few days off, so I will take a trip to this region - thanks

I think about Euro 2.30 a pint of the local beer
Food was about 6.50 for the Schnitzel and the most expensive meal was a Game platter for 13.50 euro

Cheers vader that price seems to be quite agreeable ,will be en route in the morn so I shall be sampling the quality For my self very soon :thumb2
