Nice area to visit
Lovely coast up around Zingst.
Peenemünde was interesting if you are into that sort of history thing.
Nothing special roads wise on a bike.

The island is Rugen, Germany’s largest.

The roads are interesting, in as much as they are often small and different from hooning in the Alps.

Start in Lubeck, a nice small city, and carry on along eastwards.

Great stuff as always thanks Richard and Jonny. Done a lot of Germany now and that will be the next place for us to visit.

The area up around Puttgarden is very flat and not at all scenic if memory serves. I used to take the ferry from there to Rødbyhavn on my way to Stockholm to deliver frozen pizza and ready meals.

I was there last year. It's a major holiday destination for Germans and always has been. A bit like Blackpool but a tad more genteel. (Blackpool is fine btw!) So, depending on when you're going, some popular spots will be very busy. OTOH, there's plenty of quieter areas and there's the option of going into Poland and up to Estonia and maybe a ferry to Sweden and back round via the Oresund bridge?

Rugen is stunning, , we stayed in Sellin. Prora and Peenemunde are worth visiting ( although Prora has now been comprehensively redeveloped ) Laboe with the Kreigsmarine memorial is worth a visit with the U boat on the foreshore, we stopped a night at Anklam which had some very interesting history.

Thanks again lads.
Next on the list for the Doc does travel series.

Moltenort U-Boat memorial in Heikendorf near Kiel. U68 sunk in 1944 has a family connection. My sister married a Manekeller, his grandfather died on U68.

U-Boat U995 is a museum in Laboe, Germany. You can get inside. Brave men to get into one of those tin cans, cramped, smelly and a somewhat short life expectancy.

There also a Soviet JULiET U461 boat which you can get aboard at the maritime museum at Peenemunde. 1960 era, 4000 tonne, guided missile boat with launchers behind the conning tower.
Peenemunde rocket museum is also worth a half day.

I'll have a look into where we might stay. Be good to have a base for a few days. Probably tie it in with a visit to Cochem as we have been invited to visit Ralf and his Mrs from the hotel we stay in their.
363 miles too Lubeck off the ferry. Might have a stopover on the way as we said we wouldn't do that sort of mileage in a day anymore. Maybe a non motorway route to get there.

450 miles or near enough.

Me? I’d maybe motorway from the ferry to say, Deventer and then take the none motorway route from there to Lubeck.

If ypu want to split the route Emden is a nice place to stay and the coastal route along to Bremerhaven/ Cuxhaven is a relaxing alternative to Autobahns

I drove around this area in the 1990s, very nice and unspoilt then.
I suspect it’s not changed much since then.
Richard’s posts above a little more informative than mine.
