Just a brief report on my bike trip to Germany/Switzerland/France in June this year. Apologies for the usual late write up.

As usual the emphasis is on photos as opposed to narrative.

I got the HSS Belfast - Stranraer then DFDS Newcastle Ijmuiden again this year after last years good experience. I wasn’t disappointed although the Sea Food Buffet on board the Queen of Scandinavia had gone up to 28.50 Euros this year. Worth every penny though.

I decided to call in with those nice Wunderlich people in Sinzig as I fancied one of their carbon huggers for the bike. I called in and was made to feel welcome and bought the said hugger it worked out at £140 which, although expensive, was cheaper than I could get it here at home. They had a computer with internet access and free Tea/Coffee/Iced water and a massive box of tools with which you could attach your newly purchased ‘bling’

After Sinzig I set sail for my main target in Germany, namely this place
It did not disappoint. I am going to attach some of my pics that I took there. They are of varying quality some of the stuff you may recognise, it was a real ‘petrol head fest’ as you will see. I managed to get to see an old R75 side car outfit from WWII which I have been wanting to see ‘in the metal’ for a long time… result.

There were a great many of exhibits here from Concorde the FW190 and Fisler Storch to Ferraris Porsches and F1 racing cars. Well here goes.

phew ... taking a break, back soon

OK Back again. The Museum at Sinsheim greatly understated their Militaria exhibits but there really was a lot of stuff there, Russian, American and German.

Was never much into choppers but I think I might just be able to live with this one.

Russian Concorde, they have 2, the other one French. You can get in and scramble around inside. Have to say I found it very claustrophobic. A friend had the experience of crossing the Atlantic on one.

After Sinsheim I headed south and across Switzerland to the French Alps. No prizes for guessing where these shots were taken.

This was our perch in the French Alps it is not far from the village of Thones and is a very beautiful place. It is part of an alpine working farm which means you get authentic noises in the morning. I have always been an early riser but there is something very special about being wakened in the morning by the sound of cow bells as the cows are being taken out to the pastures.

A couple of shots of Chamonix nearby.

55.jpg

56.jpg

This one was taken on the Martigny Pass travelling from France into Switzerland.

57.jpg

These were taken in Switzerland approaching the Grand St Bernard Pass.

These next couple of shots were taken on the Italian side. We travelled down to Courmayeur and through the Mt Blanc tunnel back to Chamonix.

This little guy landed on my neck in the Chalet, he was about 10cms long so not much Macro required.

65.jpg

These shots were taken between the Grimsel and the Furkha in Switzerland.

These shots were taken coming off the Grimsel towards the Susten.

This was taken at the top of the Susten.

This lot taken on the decent from the Susten. The Susten was my favourite pass of this trip.

From France I rode back up through Germany staying in Wesel overnight and then travelling back to Ijmuiden again for the ferry back to Newcastle.
