Gert’s Funeral

20.10

Didn't know the person you are all so obviously fond of, but Mrs G and I will raise a glass of Scotland finest at 20.10 on 20.10 2010 to him down here in Devon.
one of the most sensitive threads I've ever read, I'm still a sensitive Irishman!
regards to you all in your loss

I think this is roughly most of the riders please add if I have missed anybody - and sorry if I have
I couldn't get on a flight today so will definately be on a flight coming in tomorrow morning. I think I will be too pushed for time to get from the heliport home and back to Inverurie so will dash straight home and to the Crematorium and see you all there. I will be in a car so can offer folk a lift after the funeral. I will have to make my excuses at some point and head home again as I have an early check in the following day to fly back out here but will help out where I can.

I'm coming down from JOG.
I'll be at Woodys in Inversnecky for brekky about 8-ish if anyone's around from that area.
Nothing set in stone, we either hit or miss, no worries.

I'll drop in 8ish - even get the first round in!

One suggests gaffer taping some tennis rackets to the soles of your boots according to BBC weather and put a big jumper on

Oh - Oh, time to wire up the jacket for the heated gloves and body warmer

And to think that only a few weeks ago I was in a place so hot the soles melted off my riding boots - and had to be 'Gaffer Taped' back on :blast

Bob.

And to think that only a few weeks ago I was in a place so hot the soles melted off my riding boots -

Were you back at that swingers club in Manchester wi' Tommy Sheridan? :D

Aw feck me....it's going to be a cold and interesting ride up:eek::eek:

cheers for the heads up Gerry:thumb

Very cold trek north from holiday lodge in Loch Lomond, but it was good to see Anette and Gert's family, and friends. Near 40 riders to escort him, he would have enjoyed that and I would rather he wasn't in front. Goodbye old friend.

Was a bit chilly up here today but we gave Gert a good send off.

And escort of 36 bikes, very moving to see, and standing room only at the service.

:beerjug:Gert

An excellent attendance by both ukgser and nae fanny bar members in rather chilly weather.

Its nice to know motorbikers from all over the british isles are willing to come considerable distances celebrate the life of someone who they know only through the two organisations mentioned above.

There must have been a hundred or so other family and friends already seated when the durty bikers traipsed in.

Bhud was the pall bearer with squeeky boots I think.
He also arranged coffee and bacon rolls prior to the funeral in a local club. What a star.

A humanist service, detailing the life of Gert (what an interesting and varied life) was held.

Hope everybody got home ok.

Lets not be having to do it again in the near future.

Gert received a send off befitting the man. 36 bikes turned up to escort the hearse the 15 miles between the Rest Home and Crematorium.

There, as Den and others have said, we met up with Anette and the rest of Gert's family along with a couple of hundred other people who'd come to celebrate his life.

A beautifully sunny autmumn day for a very sad occasion.

RIP Mein Freund

A Moving Day

I can only agree with what Den & Ronno have said.

It was a moving day and a very moving service. It was also a very cold day - but at least the sun was shining for Gert's final journey.

To Gert:beerjug:...........Grizzly
