Well my seats will be couriered back tomorrow morning from Melvin hunter and hopefully will be comfier on long distances...:)

I trust that this isn't a back-door attempt at advertising them for sale just in case you're not happy with them when you get them....?

You will post pictures and give us your opinion won't you.....? I've used a Melvin seat on my VFR but prefer my Corbin. I'm interested in what he can do with GS seats though.

Melvin Hunter Seats

I have had my seats for 3000 miles covered in the last couple of months. Longest distance in one day 371 miles. Not a lot compared to some of the more hardened bikers but enough for me. Only started to feel little un comfortable after about 260 miles or so.

The seat has just got better with time. Excellent workmanship, very comfortable ( complete with Gel seat insert) and fitted straight away onto the bike with no problem. The standard 1200 seat tends to lean from rear to front thus pitching you towards the tank. His seats resolve that problem !

From the time of ordering to receiving them took 7 days including a weekend. I was fortunate because he had spare 1200 seats to cover immediately.

And the price was superb, compared to Corbin or Sargent seats who incidentally (Sargent that is) could not provide the colour of seat I wanted.

Highly recommended. Usual disclaimer applies i.e i have no connection or business interest in M Hunter seats.

Ha ha...! No...not much choice really - Melvin re-uphosters the original seat so if I want to change back; I'll have to buy new stock seats from the dealer or buy Corbins...will post some pics up and let you all know how I get on with it.

Unless you buy a used stock seat from a member who might just have a spare one. Not that I'm trying to advertise it you understand......:P

I'll stop now.....honest. :o

I've got a "melvin modified" seat that I bought second-hand off this forum and have just finished a long-ish tour of Europe and have to say that I'm going to cut the seat apart and see if it really does have a gel insert in it! The last day was the most painful ride..ooo er missus.... of my life:( If there is no gel insert, then fair enough, I'll get one put in.. but if there is, then I'll look for an alternative seat design. I am not, in anyway, criticizing Melvin, as I bought this seat second-hand with no "provenance"..:)

cheers guys...yep even you ceeby...mixed reports now...will have to wait & see how it is when it arrives...

Melvin

I've had my 1150GS seats melvinned too, and am very satisfied with the result.

I had the BMW low seat which was too low and cramped my legs. The standard seat was fine when riding, but a bit too high when 'paddling'.

Melvin fitted a 3/8" gel insert into the low seat, to raise it a little and scalloped a small amount of foam from the sides to maintain easier paddling. The front and rear seats have both been recovered in 'basket weave' material.

It's easy to tell that the front seat has the gel insert, by it's 'gel' feel when compared to the pillion seat!

No relation to Melvin Hunter!

If you find my Datatag transponder, can I have it back?

There'd better be a gel pad in there, or I shall want a refund from Melvin!

And I believe that the gel pad is only to reduce vibration, not increase comfort.
