Trading my old girl in against a new 2014 model later today at Pidcocks. If anyone is looking for a used June 2013 GS-LC bike, my old girl has been totally faultless and will represent a great used buy if you know anyone who is looking, well that is depending on what price Piddy's put it up for. done exactly 6000 happy miles. racing red.

Hope she goes to a good home. :thumb2

Why the change ? bikes pretty much identical ?

Why??? Please tell. Seems like an odd move as doesn't gain anything and a ridiculously expensive one.

I had a thought to change after a long weekend away two weeks ago in the Dales, we were riding down some very poorly surfaced roads with very undulating surfaces, and for the first time I was wary of my feet dangling in the air when I went to put my feet down over some gravelly surfaces, this has never been apparent before as I hadn't been riding in such conditions with full luggage and a pillion, and there were just a couple of moments when I could have done with longer legs.
This is when I thought h'mmm maybe the next bike could be the lowered option, anyway I rang up Piddy's last Friday to get a price for a pair of new PR4's and my 6000 miles service, we got chatting as you do, and I asked about the lowered suspension bikes, salesman said he had one and also had a buyer for my bike, yeh, I know it's probably just sales pitch, anyway he offered my a very good deal on my bike and then when I considered that I was just about to pay £500.00 plus for the new boots and service I thought it made good sense to do the deal, just like that! If I wasn't going to be carrying a pillion with full luggage on poorly surfaced roads then I wouldn't have bothered. I'll miss the 2013 'full-on' bike.
I hope that I've made the right decision as my 2013 bike has been just brilliant, I think that if I can have the same bike that is just 30mm lower it will be just the ticket, expensive 30mm? maybe, but not if it helps me keep it upright in tricky conditions.

My mate has very recently got the low bike and when I tried it I thought it was really handy, not a lot of difference but just enough, he loves his low bike to bits!

Anyway we'll see how she goes, I'll keep you posted. :beerjug:

Your legs are never long enough for off road riding. You deal with it through training and experience. Appreciate you are not talking about off road but my point still stands. Off road riding improves your road riding.

So I reckon your money would have been better spent on dealing with the problem via training/experience improving your riding as opposed to throwing money at kit which does nothing but depreciate.

Out of interest, whats your inside leg measurement?

Good decision,
Mine is lowered, Then went on the ORS school weekend with standard bike and lowered seat. Im so glad i made that decision on my own bike.
The amount of times it caught me out and a few mill on an uneven surface was enough to lose it, especially the more knackered you became, But at the same time the confidence that course gave you :flag

I think you'll find it's closer to 20mm than 30mm, factory have been setting the lowest seat height to 800mm rather than the 790mm originally stated.

fair enough - makes as much sense as chopping a GS in for a lardy GSA. Good luck with it.

I've sat on both the GSA and GS on the dealers forecourt and found the GSA no taller than the GS only that it appears to have a softer foamed seat

I appreciate your comments Chuffer, but I grew up riding off road as a kid on all sorts of bikes, straight out of the garden onto the river bank and away until the fuel ran out, fields, dykes, sandpits and woodland, and not all flat terrain, I like riding off road, my other bike is a Honda trail bike.

You say it was a ridiculously expensive! I don't remember saying how much it cost me to change, or do you know something that I don't? Perhaps my money and my depreciation is my problem and not yours my mate!

The height of a GS for 95% of riders is fashion and style, it helps to make it look great and gives the bike great road presence, however it is not really a practical 'must have', or you do ground your sump guard on a regular basis and as such require the extra height, I don't and I never will, even on this new lower bike.

Re; ORS, my mates and I have it on the cards for later on this year......maybe I'll feel the need upgrade to a GSA after doing the course!:aidan

Whateva! Your money mate. But dread to think what the cost per mile is on your 2013 bike once you have worked out the true TCO including depreciation, cost of capital and fuel.... If you can afford it good on ya. But there is nothing like denial when it comes to TCO!

You sound just like my missus, she worries far too much about my money as well, probably best if you just worry about your purse-strings chuffer as there's no point in the two of you worrying about mine! Ha Ha!
:blagblah

Do it mate, never try and justify it to anyone. If you can afford it and you want it........buy it. Good luck to you!
