This was driving two of us nuts. We installed Starcom system with the external mounting bracket. Both of us were getting engine noise coming through the external audio socket. Drove down to Starcom. They unplugged the external cable and plugged it in to the unit directly and then blamed the bike. For those that have the external bracket on a GS you will notice that the plate is metal and so is the frame of the bike. After getting frustrated and ready to put my foot on the unit I noticed that the external cable has no insulation when plugged into the bracket and hence it was grounding to the bike frame. Put some waterproof tape and zipped tied the cable to the bike and presto works great. Politely called Starcom to tell them the design flaw and "we have never had that in the eleven years". Well matey it just happened on two bikes and likely many more are having the same problems. Hmmm... wonder why they are so keen to sell the Bluetooth module...
