Getting out of neutral?

Picked up my 2002 1150 the other day and have noticed a little problem with the gear box. :(

Sometimes, I cant seem to engage 1st gear when im in neutral. Ive tried various methods of tapping on the lever with varying pressure. Ive tried reving the engine while doing this and rolling the bike at the same time. After about 4-6 attempts it finally engages, can be quite embarassing when the lights change green and im stuck!

Ive heard the GS has a clunky gear box but is this problem with neutral common?
Any way to fix it?!

Cheers!

Put presure on the gear lever and slowly let out the clutch. It will clunk into gear :thumb

Try going into second and then dropping to first.

If it`s also a bit dodgy going up from first, check your gear lever pivot isn`t seized......it`s a fairly common problem.

Or.... Think about moving the height of the gear lever if it's quite low. I've found if the lever is too far down it makes the changes much harder. If you raise it up a bit you seem to get a bit more leverage and a sweeter change all round.

I find that first gear engages better with the clutch 1/3 released. do not know why. ???

Because the slight drag of the clutch will cause the gears in the box to rotate, thus allowing them to find the correct position to engage with each other.
