Getting ready for spring

Took wheels off and ordered some new tyres, plumped for Michelin Pilot Road 3, for £234 fitted. Could have had PR 4's at about £250 fitted but as they are an unknown quantity at the moment, and PR 3's are quality tyre thought I'd go with them for now. I'll be glad to see the back of the Bridgestone 021's even after only 4500 miles.

Also I believe there is a connector for the sat nav on the front of the bike somewhere, can someone here point me in the right direction to find it ? as i now have a Garmin 660. Do I need a special connector for it ? and where do I get one from, the Garmin lead is a bit odd having all those different leads for mike and stuff, I just hope they can cope with our weather.

Not for long - as half the new water-cooled RTs will have them as original equipment.

if you turn your handlebars fully to the right and look at the jumble of wires behind the ignition - follow them down and look for a plug with an blanking cap in it - that will be the Sat Nav connection.

You will need a short wiring loom from a BMW dealer or from Nippy Normans which will solder to the 660 wiring and then plug straight into the BMW connector.

Alternatively just back the wiring onto the back of the auxiliary socket (which is what I did or should I say what Rainbow did...)

To make it a bit clearer this is how the 660 was wired onto my RT - it worked well with no electrical interference and Autocom was wired to same place too.

On the rear auxiliary socket (front socket is more accessible but the rear one was used due to the Autocom going under the main seat) - disconnect the plug and make sure you identify the live and neutral wires. With ignition off and battery uncoupled bear about 5 mm of wire by stripping back the insulation. Then twist the live of your Sat Nav to the live of the auxiliary socket and repeat with the neutral etc - then solder for a neat tidy job - then re-insulate - connect battery and - hey presto you now have a wired (and fused) live feed to the Sat Nav - the live will remain live for a minute or so after the ignition is turned off due to the delay of the socket power.

Hope that makes it clearer - its a simple job - I just did the same on my GSA for the Autocom.
