SWMBO is looking at a motorhome with a garage (a 44" high storage area in the rear under a fixed high bed). I've measured the bike and even taking off the mirrors and screen it won't go in unless the front wheel is removed.

In which case it will be blóódy difficult to roll the bike up the ramp into the garage.

The only thing I could think of is a small diameter wheel. Any other ideas???

Tim

If it's a Rimor type jobbie you can make up a spindle with a small jockey wheel, then it should roll ion. Mine goes in with just the screen removed.

How about a sack barrow, one with chunky pneumatic tyres, then chop the handles off high enough up so that it wont interfere with the beak and suspension but high enough to get some straps on.
Take wheel out, sit it on the barrow plate and strap the forks to the barrow.
May need a spacer bar between the forks as when twisting the bar to steer may cause them to move in or out. Or else weld some stops to the plate for forks to sit in.
The sack barrow idea with two wheels may help with balance when moving about too.

Then again it may well be a rubbish idea that will get shot down in flames by some clever engineering type bloke!
Best of luck....oh, machine mart or screwfix etc have them,

im a caravan & motorhome service engineer by trade, and its gotta be said to get a gs into the back of a motorhome, must tek some doing, coz majority of the "garages" are only designed to take small bikes, scooters etc, you may find a european manufacturer who makes a garage bigger than others, but the english stuff, swift, lunar etc. i cant see you doin it unless like you say you remove the wheels etc., i was pdi'ing an autotrail last week that had an elevating fixed bed in the back that could be adjusted to suit what you was carrying in the garage, that had a bit more height but i wouldnt of said enough for a gs tho:cool:,

you could always look at an american rv, some of them have got garages on the back to take cars:augie

It's actually the F650GS twin that I'm measuring up for the motorhome. The motorhome is a Geist 6650.

The similarity in the number systems is just a happy coincidence. :)

It aint gonna fit! We have faced this issue and figured that when in the motorhome to just have a small motorcycle for the 'shopping' trips or a couple of bicycles. When we lived in the UK we had a Knaus Traveller with a similar looking size garage to yours and my wife had a F650 and there is no way that could have fitted.

We plan moving back to Europe later this year and want to fit our GSA in a motorhome - we are looking at a Flair, Concorde or Phoenix and the GSA aint gonna fit in any of them...............so, our solution will be a heavy weight rear rack. I have seen some very large rear racks in Germany with GSs on them mounted up VERY high to try and keep the bike out of the road crap etc.

Of course the simple solution is a box trailer.............yeaaahh, I know which means towing:blast

There is a company in Austria that have several possible solutions for you........I met these guys in Dusseldorf and they had an amazing lift with a 1150 GSA held up high on the back of a motorhome, in a similar way to the davits holding a lifeboat on a ship. Check out www.actionmobil.at

Be very careful about axle weights.
Most Motorhomes are 3.5 tonne gross weight.
and around 3 tonne empty.
.5 tonne ain't a lot of payload, and a mo'bike behind the back axle will be very easy to overload rear
This is one of the main reasons why we changed to the Hymer 660
It's 4.6 tonne gross weight with a 1.6 tonne payload...
It's also got a slide out 200kg capacity M/C rack in the back bumper :thumb2.

IIMHO I'd go to your local weighbridge and ask for a total [all ] and a "split" [each axle seperately]weigh. see what you have available...

Isn't that stuff just amazing!! Their website is not very friendly but if you dig deep there are loads of pictures. Essentially everything they make is bespoke. I love the way they hang the motorbikes up on a sliding rail system.

I looked up the Geist motorhome and as Prof says there isn't enough payload. Our Knaus 708 was rated at 4 tons gross and I always reckoned that even a scooter in the back would be pushing it due to the overhang.

I reckon towing is the simplest and most secure option without replacing the motorhome.

^^^^^
What he sez, only problem towing is in some countries, they may not be secure even padlocked to trailer :(
A Camera IS ESSENTIAL if towing a trailer as you can't see it in the mirrors :(

I've just bought a lockable 4 wheel streamlined box trailer :thumb2
Sid Horman has seen it and blagged it for the whole of JULY !!!!:eek:
Mind he is coming down to help put a bike rail in it :thumb2

We also have a 106 diesel towcar with over run brakes :) tows a piece of piss :)
