Hi All,

I'm new to Google Earth and relatively new to the Garmin Zumo 550.

I've done a long trip and from the User Data section on my Zumo it appears to have saved what I think is called "seed data" for the trip. If I go to tools on the Zumo and select User Data I can see the memory is 83 per cent full.

How do I do down load this on to Google Earth? The Zumo instructions are king naff.

Cheers, Nordkapper

If you have Mapsource you can select view in Google Earth under the view menu....

Mapsource comes with any Garmin Maps that aren't bought on flash card... it also comes with the Trip and Waypoint manager...

If you have it, but haven't installed it yet, I would... it allows you to do a lot more with your GPS, much easier, than just using the unit.

This works.

First you have to pay to upgrade your Google Earth from the free version to Google Earth Plus. That will cost you $20 but is worth it IMHO. That will activate the GPS management features of Google Earth.

Connect your Zumo 550 by USB cable to a PC. The Zumo switches to an 'I'm a hard drive now' mode and you will see an extra drive on your PC which is the Zumo.

In the Zumo drive there will be a number of GPX files which contain your records (tracks, routes , waypoints etc). The most recent one will be Current.gpx There may or may not be others in the Archive folder which you may also need to copy or move off the Zumo. Put all the files you want to move to Google Earth in some suitable folder. I use a folder under Documents called My GPS with a folder for each trip. Up to you.

Open Google Earth Plus and go to the File menu and the Open command. A window opens. Navigate to the folder where you put your gpx files. To the right of the File name field at the bottom of the window is a pull down menu showing "Google Earth (*.kml *.kmz... Click on the down arrow to open the pull down menu and select the third option "Gps (*.gpx *.loc *.mps). You will see a list of the gpx files you put in the folder. Select (highlight) the ones you want and hit the Open button.

A window opens with a number of options - for now just click OK. In the Places window in Google Earth under Temporary Places you will see an item called GPS device. Open it then open the Tracks sub-item double click on any of the tracks to see where in the world you were.

Here endeth the first lesson...:D:thumb2

Lesson two would be about joining tracks together so you have one track for each day but hopefully you know a way to do that. If not...well that is for another day - 'cos its way too late now!

Thanks for replies

Hey Everybody,

Thanks for taking the time to write in with the replies.

I'll take some time to take another look at the weekend using your suggestions.

No you don't!

Connect the Zumo to your PC.
Open a Mapsource document.
"Receive from" the track log from your Zumo.
Go to "View" on your Mapsource document and select "View in Google Earth".
Job done.
