I like the convenience of a tankbag, but i'm always concerned about scratching the paintwork. Personally I ain't a fan of bagsters.

So, what to go for, SW Motech, Touratech, Wunderlich?

Whad'ya reckon??

If you've got any piccies, they'd be appreciated.

Cheers! :thumb2

Ive got the bmw one. It clips near the headstock and zips to a clip round the bottom of the tank.

The bottom of the bag has a foam edge to prevent scratches.

Recently did a couple of thousand mile trip with it with no problems.

TT, without a doubt.

That's the problem. Three replies, three different answers.

Lots of threads on the subject. Search is your friend.

bmw

i agree with the above i recently used the large bmw tankbag fits a treat easy to get on and off.
clear top for map
little detachable zipped pocket on the front i deal for change keys phone wallet.
And its very waterproof and expandable .
can fit all the bits you might need to hand but would not want to leave on the bike while your in a garage or toilets away from the bike.

sorry no pics but pics on bwm site

BMW one, only thing is the detachable pocket on the front is not waterproof so if its very wet it will let water in. It fits well as you would expect from BM and no scratches
I only have a picture of my bike with it fitted, and not expanded, sorry no close ups
Good Luck

I've just bought the SW Motech "system", bit of a no brainer I thought. The bags don't touch the tank, you can interchange them with different sizes, they attach/detach in a second, can't fall off. They even do a range that you can take a power supply from which is fed from the bike battery to the fuel filler ring and is connected as soon as you snap the bag intoplace. Means you can charge an iPo/phone etc.:)

They do several different sizes designed to specifically fit the GS:D

 Thanks for the responses! I was secretly hoping the SW kit would have good feedback, as I really like the look of it.

You lot are a bad influence, that'll be another couple of hundred quid spent on the steed! :thumb

Another vote for the BMW. Does what it says on the tin. Easy fit and remove plus despite warnings to the contrary it can be used with the handlebar cross brace fitted. Full lock possible on both sides with tank bag and cross brace. No cross brace on this photo from last year.

Go and buy it, then.

Take comfort that when the next bod comes along to ask if it's any good, you will be able to say:

(a) It's really good, I am so happy with it

or

(b) It's really crap.... I have now bought XXX and it's the dog's.

Toad is that a drinks holder for monkey attached to the near side indicator

SW Motech gets my vote :thumb2, only got the small one as the only stuff I put in it is phonbe, camera, bike to bike radio. If I wanted a larger one it would definately be another Motech one. The locking mech is so simple, makes filling the bike with fuel a doddle, quality is excellent and pretty waterproof even without the raincover they come with :thumb2

I forgot about the little detachable bum bag - found it very handy. :thumb2

I have the TT one (on a 650 twin) - looks good but only after a couple of rides I noticed some small scratches in the paint. Because the TT is very pricy I am not all to happy about this. But other than that I like it - godd build quality and keeps dry when it rains.

BMW GS tank bag

Well, I have got a BMW GS tank bag for over 2 years and it does not leave tank paintwork scratched! You won't be disappointed. I have some reservations on other tank bags from different manufacturers. Although the BMW GS tank bag is expensive to buy, you would have no trouble selling it fast on ebay or any BMW bikers' forums one day and get most of your money back! :bounce1

I agree with all the above on the bmw tank bag .....but after 30 months and 35000 miles the clear top window is now a fetching shade of green.
It could be the clear plastic breaking down in the sunshine or it could be algae growing in the map pocket. It is not the only one I have seen like this , perhaps they all do it eventually. I havn't abused it , honest.
