GIVI - KAPPA - BMW ????

Looking to buy a large top box for the 1150 GS, looked at Givi and Kappa so far, has anybody got any views on which might be best ?

Not looked at the BMW stuff yet as i suspect it will be expensive.

any advise would be appreciated before i take the plunge.

I would point you towards a Givi 52, holds 2 full face helmets, can have brake light and back rest if your that way inclined and most of all it doesn't upset the handling.

Givi has worked well for me, and moved from bike to bike over 7 years or more. Still going strong. Not pretty mind. Norman

any idea where the cheapest place to buy one of these is ?

looking on ebay, but some of the stuff on there has been going for nearly the same as the new stuff.

best price so far on a 46 litre was Hein Gericke at £146

management is moaning so need to get the best deal possible and get the right box first time !!

I have to agree on the ebay side of things. Some of the boxes on there go for more 2nd hand than they do new when u consider the p&p.

I'm after a 50l or so box and am convinced I'm gona have to buy new and face the consequences!

My local Hein Gericke shop (Peterborough) quoted me £167 for a Givi E460 & mounting plate for my 1150GS.

Ringing around that seems to be the best deal. Only downside is that it may take 6-8 weeks.

I'm running with a Give E52 on my 1100GS, with lights and a backrest . The full kit cost about £200 a year or so ago from (Hein Gericke online). Delivery was the 3-5 days promised. The adapter plate was fitted when I got the bike but they run around £40 as an individual item.

The box is great, carries all kind of crap without another thought. The lights I could live without - the fitting is easy but untidy and I ended up using gaffer tape to protect the leads from sharp corners on the stuff I put in the box. A set of LEDs from Nippy Norman or wherever might be better. The backrest requires a couple of holes drilled in the box. I am happy to do this and used the washers supplied and some silicone grease to make sure there was some protection from ingress of water but your mileage may vary.

Have a look to see how big the biggest Kappa box is, it will go straight on to anywhere you can fit the Givi and be less expensive. Adyb I have an as new Kappa 48ltr (takes 2 BMW Helmets) complete with brake light, sorry no mounting plate hence only £130. Just up the road from you in Sheffield.

GIVI 52 recommended. Done 60k with one on the back of my 1150GS, the rack wore out (tip - if heavily overloading for long periods remember to change the four rubbers as they wear - if you dont, box can 'rattle' and over a long period wears the rack) but the box itself is still in great nick, always waterproof, stays closed at speed even when I forget to close the catch, and has no adverse handling effects.

Same company. Kappa is their lower priced units. Boxes are different, mounting plates the same.

Has anyone out there fitted the Kappa Moto Case K961 and Monorack fitting kit to their GS. Any positive feedback?

All in this comes to £160 which seems quite good. Having used a rucksack for the past two months, I want something a bit more waterproof and secure.

Like the look of this case. Has a handle and looks to be large briefcase sized. Not too worried about whether it will take a helmet, although it says it can take too. Have never used a monorack before though, last bike I had with a Givi topbox I used a plate. Are monoracks more secure? Any feedback appreciated
