Today my BMW top box came off on a country road.

I am thinking of replacing it with either a Givi top box, or replacing the whole luggage system with a set of Givi Trekkers that I have.

2 questions please.

1) If I attach a Givi SR694 top box rack, can I still use my system panniers. I've looked at a PDF and a supporting bracket appears to go where the mounting rails are for the system panniers.

2) If I go the whole hog and buy some PL189 pannier rails, will I have to move the indicators to stop them fouling the panniers?

Many thanks

Mike

Hi Mike

If you go onto the Givi website, you can download the instructions for these kits:

http://www.givi.co.uk/attachfile/content/prodotti_regionali_uk/20923/1.0.1.man_pl189.pdf

My bike is an 850 GS, but I think that that all relevant parts are the same as the 1150. However Givi seem to have changed the design of the rear rack kit - it now has that rather fat mounting plate, whereas mine has the plastic plate.

For what it is worth given that change, I believe that it would be possible to fit the top box rack with the BMW panniers - the steel brackets are only about 2mm thick and I suspect that they will fit under the pannier rails.

If you fit the panniers you will have to move the indicators. The kit includes mounting brackets which fit under the rear rack (with or without the Givi top box plate). I had enough slack in my wires to be able to simply unplug, relocate and plug back in.

Many thanks for your quick response, and answering all my questions.

I picked up a Givi SR694 rack from Motorworks today and can now confirm that it is comatable with the System Pannier rails.
