I have recently purchased a Tramuntana R1300GS... I am not a fan of the vario luggage and prefer the Givi Outback side cases,
Has anyone fitted these cases to a 1300GS and do they look ok or do they spoil the look of the bike.
Also would the quick release system be better or should I just leave the frames on all the time ??

For the look of the cases I guess it's personal taste

I've had trekker outback boxes on a previous bike, the mounting system was very good

Also the quick detach frames are great, easy to fit and remove, bike looks cleaner when you don't need the boxes on

Have you already got the Givi luggage ?
I only ask as I’ve had Givi Trekkers before and they were pretty good but not as good as SW Motech Trax panniers.Plus the quick release Pro Side Carriers from SW Motech are of a better construction than the Givi equivalent .
I’ve recently bought SW Motech Dusc panniers for my Vstrom and they are half the weight of aluminium panniers but still very strong and waterproof.

Think the SW Motech stuff is a tad pricier than the Givi equivalent, but it’s another option.

Givi have just released the contoured version of these panniers that hug into the bike more closely. The down side is you have to remove the Vario mounts, whereas the standard Trekker panniers can be fitted with the Vario mounts still in place.

The difference is the “S” in the model number for the pannier and rack

I have the 37l non contoured version as I couldn’t get the contoured ones in time. They’re great, and the rapid release kit means there’s little left on the bike. I’ve left the Vario rails, that the bike came with, in place.

I have the 57l Lone Rider top case and the panniers just clear it.

I’ve recoded my panniers to work with the BMW key. It only takes 5 minutes with a Dremel and is really easy. The Lone Rider tip box supports coding to your BMW key as standard - no Dremel required.

I used a second rapid kit by screwing the mounts to the wall - it means I can store the frames and panniers easily when not in use. The cross support bar that goes between the pannier frames on the bike fits inside the pannier when storing them.

I did consider the Dusc panniers but prefer top loading ones.

Or look at the touratech Evo boxes,

The new fitting system is much better than the old system, they've made a few other improvements too
Thats what i went for in 38L and functionally they are great, very easy to use, robust, and dont leak, although the frames stay on the bike, i am not a fan of vario, the last model ones were crap (imo).

I like the look of those but would probably get the slightly smaller ones, still undecided which way to go. It may just come down to price.

Mine are 38 liter too, with a Givi top box that goes from one bike to the next

The boxes mount nice and close in to the bike so filtering is not a problem even with the 38 liter ones, they are narrower than the bars and maybe even the pots, (100cm overall I think) so if the front end goes through the arse end will follow 👍

if you go the TT route you can get 10 percent off at rugged roads using UKGSER-10.

Doesn't look like they currently have any 31L stock in, have 38L.

I have the same Givi box which has also come from my last 2 bikes, I also have the Givi toolbox and was hoping it would fit too but that depends on which way I go.

Are they the same on both sides or is there a cutout for the exhaust ?

I have the Givi outback on my triple black with the quick release kit and am really pleased with it.

If you do decide to go down that route, I have a spare set of the quick release fittings (still in the pack), if you are interested.

I have decided to go the Givi route and have purchased the Outback Evo boxes along with the rack all in black, I am not going to bother with the quick release system though as I have my toolbox connected to the rack and also I think leaving them on gives the bike a little more protection on small spills.

they have two options

equal width out each side of the bike - with the idea of using identical 37 litre cases

or you can buy a chopped up case and run unequal brackets with their idea you run 45 litre and 37 litre side cases that actually sit 10cm narrower overall

the lopsided effort - only saves 10cm overall width if you run the 37 litre one on the left - I thought you ran a 45 litre and a modified 45 litre one....

A 33-ltr. side case, contoured for the right-hand side, with MONOKEY® CAM-SIDE attachment
