GSA Luggage on Back Order

I doubt they stick out more than the 1250 versions, because the racks are supposed to be closer into the bike centre. The engine bars though....!

I went with SW-Motech medium 37L aluminum panniers which are 7 cm narrower than the GSA panniers. Plenty large enough but I don't think my helmet would fit in one.

I've just ordered a new GSA last week to take advantage of the free luggage and I was told that BMW have, as of last friday, pulled the offer of the free luggage due to the silver finish on the boxes going "tea bag yellow" in places so there is a fundamental fault that BMW are having to address. I was promised a set of Black panniers and top box as a replacement without the extra cost as the black ones are not part of the BMW offer but was not told like "Martin GSA UK" above that theres no panniers in the UK and it's all on back order. I'm going into BMW tomorrow so will double check what they say.....

Incidentally I was told that BMW were looking into alternative aftermarket panniers and boxes but as the info from Germany, to stop the deal, had only just happened they were unsure of a plan. Lone rider do boxes and panniers for the GSA and if you fast forward to 6min23secs in the youtube video you can see them on a GSA. They use a similar rack to the 1250GSA....

Where do folk stow their helmets who buy these Mosco coal sacks or faux, tactical cotton panniers? :popcorn

Or, don’t they wear helmets? :rolllaugh

I took advantage of the current offer to include 'free' luggage on bike registered this quarter. My GSA arrived on Thursday without the luggage. There's no luggage in the UK or at the BMW factory. Hence it is on 'back-order', with no date given for delivery. I have a tour next month, so am having to make fall-back arrangements.

Is anyone else in the same position? Has anyone been given a date?
Got my 1300 Adventure 31st Mar. Still waiting for the panniers. Dick Lovett in Bristol just keep saying they are on back order with no dates. Trouble is I was only told they were not available was when I was handed the key. Really poor and they are still pushing the offer. BMW should be offering something for this as people are having to spend money on other options while they wait.

These things can hit even the finest companies from time to time. But, it happened before, when they first launched the new GSA. So, without first fully stress testing it, to choose the weakest link in the supply chain as the special offer, does smack of incompetence. I'm sure we've all experienced, how the best, most customer-focused businesses, can gain loyalty in the way they look after customers when things go wrong. Be interesting to see how BMW respond. So far, poor / nil communication, leaving dealers unsupported.

I Made a nuisance of myself, regularly visiting and asking (put the dealership on my running-in route). Magically, the panniers appeared. No top box yet.
