I've fitted a Givi monokey rack to my '03 1150GS. I use my top box a fair bit but there are times when I'd rather be without it, but the wife doesn't like going pillion with no top box, as fitting the rack mean't taking off the origional grab rail. I've tried to find a 'grab rail' that will fit onto the monokey rack, but Givi don't make one. Does anyone have any ideas where i could find one or ever get one made?

Had this problem too. Found no solution, save to say that you can get the rack on there leaving the grab rail if you turn the rail around to that it slopes to the front of the bike. However, this pushes the box a long way back, which I didn't like.

eventually solved by putting the rest of the mounting kit on, and now the wife can hold onto the pannier racks.

Easiest way is to mount the steel givi baseplate as per the instructions but mount the plastic monokey plate approx 25 to 30mm further back. That way you can remount the original bmw grab rail, all you have to do is hacksaw off the two bosses on the bottom and it will remount .
Did this mod 3 years ago or so and no problems even with a fully laden maxia top box.

I had this problem also- they only way I could find around it was to use a Hepco and Becker top box rack and box. Supplied very quickly (and with the 10% january sale discount) from motobins. Hepco were the only manufacturer I could find that still kept it. The biggest box you can get is the TC50 which is 48 litre. It will swallow 2 helmets easily.

I don't really want to change my top box, so looks like the answer is to re-position it slightly further back and re-fit the origional BMW grab rail.

A job for the next wet weekend!

Thanks all.
