Looking at buying a tankbag for my LC but cannot make my mind up, Givi XS308 TANKLOCK or SW Motech quick lock evo GS/City. Has any body got any constructive views on this.

I am going for the large bmw one although I didn't realise how much smaller it is than the one for the old bike!! If I had I might have gone for one of the ones you are thinking of?
Funny, I just ordered the SW Motech Evo Daypack earlier today.
I used the old non-Evo SW Motech on 2 previous GS's and have that sitting on my trumpet now. Thought since the bike is spanky new it was time to treat it to a new bag and the Evo clip that looks much cleaner not having the 'lip' on the adapter.
Can't say much about the Givi's apart from reading others say they like them, but the SW Motech's have been very good, not marks on the tank and 2 mates now have them on Multistrada's after seeing mine on the previous GS's.

Got a Givi tank bag and like it. It quickly, easily and securely clips to the ring which attaches on top of the fuel filler cap. It has a decent extendable shoulder strap for lugging around. The attached rain cover is OK, but you can't see throught very clearly I'f you're relying on the map pocket. I think the side pockets are a bit pointless.
Don't know much about the SW alternative, but from memory ( when I was shopping around) I think Givi is better value.

I have just been through this very process.
After looking at both, my personal conclusion was that I preferred the locking system of the SW Motech.
The tank ring is now black (or at least that's an option) and is very insignificant on the bike. I looked at the givi locking system and thought it was a bit fragile. The Motech lock is, errr, well very German if you get my jist.
I have a big 'GS' bag for holidays and overnight stuff and the micro bag for wallet, keys, phone etc.
Both the actual bags (Givi and Motech) seem very well made and both on a par.
I did make one monumental cock up (which I was feckin fuming with myself for ..
); The Motech bags require you to drill and bolt the locking system in place. Whilst this may seem a faf, it's actually a good idea because you can tailor make the fit to exactly where you want the bag to sit.
'Place a piece of wood in the bag when you drill through...'
Pfft - only a numpty who cant handle a drill needs to do that ...

(The micro bag is only good for phone, wallet, keys, lipstick ... )

I hope you appreciate this!! I'm in my (sort of) pajamas and have had to go through the routine of keys, locks, chains, remove junk from garage entrance .... !!
The bag will expand slightly more if you undo the expansion zip at the top.
I wouldn't choose to use this as a day bag - it's just a tad to big. But good for overnight / holiday stuff ...

So I suppose 'only room for wallet and keys' is a bit harsh (well, unless it was the Count's wallet .. ), but you'd struggle to get a pair of waterproof trousers in there ... Ideal for a blat with the boys and taking those must have essentials though.

Hi Giles, is the big GS tank bag secure enough when it is expanded and fully loaded? The idea of it only held by that one central location seems wrong considering how much we put in a tank bag!
What is your opinion having used it?

Honestly it's fine. It's easy to think OMG (Oooo OMG - get me .. ) at motorway speeds it's gonna get ripped off the tank, but the bag is sitting in perfectly still air.
The lock is very good, and I think you'd seriously struggle to rip the bag off its housing. I've had it packed to the gunnels on the motorway and you just forget it's there. Clear and unobstructed view of the instruments ...
