I have been told that my rear LED (clear lens) brake light is too dim and hard to see

I have a BMW top box fitted and was thinking of removing it and going down the Givi top box with the high level brake lights fitted

any one done this ie using this type of box does it look ok any ideas

cheers

IMHO, every top-box brake light I've seen is also dim. :(

If you've got the LED conversion in your main rear light, the general view I've seen expressed here is that it should be brighter. Maybe yours has a fault?

Who told you that? I would not say it was dim and I was riding behind you yesterday, between the brake light and the red leds in the indicators its fine! :thumb

If you want additional lightinfg on the top box, stick with the BMW box and fit one of Nippy Normans brake light bars to it.

Failing that go back to the conventional brake light and I will bye those nasty LEDS off you for a pittance! :D

The Givi stop light aren't a good solution. The problems:

- With vibration the lamps die early.
- The connector have 2 pin with spring that press on the plate where tere is a metal connector. It isn't waterproof and suffers of oxidation and short circuit.

I did. The standard lights used by others on Fridays run were both brighter and more noticable under braking, particularly on the run back when the sun was lower and refracted through the clear brakelight lense.

Paul, the Givi lights are great when working, but they do have a habit of flashing a bit when going over bumpy ground (i.e. 99% of our roads). Haven't had any problems with dead bulbs yet, but you never know..... As I said at the time, I'd be inclined to fit the original lense first to see what happens. :thumb

if i fit the brake light bar does that mean the box cant be removed ?

Not sure how the connections work, would have thought it was just a case of using a push in connector which could be easily disconnected when required.

How often do you ride without the top box?

Damn it just saw the date, I'm in Spain FFS, pity, the young fella would have loved it.

Been thinking about this whole visability thing, I can see what Wizard is talking about, close up I'd no problems knowing you were braking paticularly with the red leds in the indicators, but LEDS have always had issues of visability in bright sunlight.

Because they are red leds I dont think refitting the red cover is going to work, if its a real issue for you coulkd be a case of going back to the original for the tail light

I'd definetly add a light bar to your BM box rather than go for the Givi option. I had it fitted on a previous bike and it was prone to intermitent flashing ( bit like it's owner :D )
