I have just mounted a Givi top box on my 1150GS's rack.

Does the mounting plate mark the alloy of the rack during prolonged use?

Just wondering, 'cos I'll probably want to remove it at some point in the future and I don't want to be left wth a damaged rack

Cheers

Yes it does.

I suspect it may have been salt but can not be sure. Either way, mine left some marks/corrosion when I removed it.

The rack on both the GS Lite & the Adv is painted - the paint is apparently chocolate based and can be marked by transporting a cardboard box (no, really!)...

Yes. Might depend on what you call 'prolonged use', of course, but mine has definitely damaged my rack.

Never mind about the rack damage - you should be more thinking about how much weight you are putting on your rear frame. Have a word with Rabbitson - he cracked frame his with a big top box ... do a search on cracked subframes and you may have some sleepless nights ;)
